Kapiris Bros has begun rolling out an innovative initiative in sustainable packaging practices this week by replacing plastic trays and punnets with home compostable sugarcane pulp solutions.
Kapiris Bros belief in eliminating packaging harmful to the environment or depleting natural resources is the latest commitment to an expanding list of sustainable business practices that they hope will foster change within the fresh produce industry, from the farm right through to the consumer.
Home compostable sugarcane pulp means that the consumer can dispose of their pre-packaged Gourmet and Roma Tomato trays and punnets at home, along with all their organic fruit and vegetable waste.
This sustainability initiative will result in the elimination of 31.5 tonnes of plastic packaging from the environment over a 12 month period.
Kapiris Bros is also moving towards its target to further eliminate its use of plastic to less than 20% by 2025 and to eliminate all plastics within its product range offered throughout all supply channels by 2030. This sustainability effort stems from Kapiris Bros strong position on preserving and protecting our natural environment. Kapiris
Bros shares a close relationship with our natural environment for over 60 years to foster the health and wellbeing of all Australian families.
These efforts towards sustainable practices not only extend to packaging, but already existing systems that have been put in place such as the conversion of all lighting to eco-friendly efficient LEDs, the separation and categorisation of all waste including the recycling of all cardboard waste as well as organic waste being provided free of charge to local farmers for livestock feed.
Consumers of fresh produce expect accountability in confirming that what is on their plate is grown and packaged in a manner that places the sustainability of our environment at the forefront of our collective concerns.
This emphasis on sustainability provides ripe opportunity for a movement towards sustainable practices. Kapiris Bros is championing and leading the charge in preserving and protecting the very same environment that it works with to provide premium quality fruit and vegetables for all Australian families.
