El Diario de Colima newspaper reported that on Saturday, February 28, the first shipment of 49 tons of bananas from the Mexican state of Colima arrived at the Chinese port of Shanghai.
The Secretary of Rural Development of the State Government, Agustin Morales, said the cargo, which departed from the port of Manzanillo on January 21, was transported in two containers and that it arrived without incident in China.
The Secretary of Agriculture of the Federal Government, Victor Villalobos, Governor Jose Ignacio Peralta, and the Secretary of Rural Development, Agustin Morales, attended the departure of the shipment.
Villalobos said that several plantations in Mexico, including 14 in Colima, obtained certification as areas free of the banana moko, which allowed them to become eligible for export.
After Jalisco, Colima is the second-fastest-growing entity in this crop in recent years, as its production has increased by 25%.
