From the start of the next berry season, the Ukrainian Business Hub is going to export berries to the United Arab Emirates. This was announced by the founder and executive director of the Ukrainian Business Hub in the Arab world, Svyatoslav Dubina, during the S-Forum Transformation.
“These will be small batches, since in these markets you cannot expect to immediately receive a contract for large batches. Last year, we already shipped trial lots of strawberries and blueberries, worked out the logistics, and searched for the berries needed for this market. The logistics is rather problematic, since it is only possible to deliver the berries by air,” said Svyatoslav Dubina.
According to him, Ukrainian berries cannot compete in this market in terms of price, but they have a very good quality and taste.
“We also faced the challenge of maintaining the right temperature for the berries. In the countries of the Arab world, during the export season of Ukrainian berries, it can be up to 50 degrees Celsius, and the fruit should be stored at +5 °C. The most important aspect is to adhere to the required temperature regime when reloading products. If this is done properly, then the berries can be stored for two weeks or more; if not, the shelf life is limited to 2-3 days,” said Svyatoslav Dubina.
According to his observations, in the countries of the Arab world there are plenty of fresh berries which are visually appealing, but tasteless, so the local population is ready to pay a high price for a delicious good berry. The most expensive berries in these markets are the French.
