Overseas customers are increasingly demanding on Chinese honey pomelos

Chinese honey pomelo is an affordable, good-quality fruit with a pleasant taste. It is a relatively established fruit on the market and is popular among overseas consumers. However, in recent years, it has become increasingly difficult to export Chinese honey pomelos to overseas markets, as customers there are more and more demanding when it comes to quality and price.

“Europeans countries such as Germany and France are our main export markets. Although we face a tough pomelo export market, the number of our customers is still on the rise, and orders from our regular customers are increasing year by year.

In 2019, we exported a total of 500 containers, an increase of nearly 20% compared with the previous year. We have our own processing plants, which is one of our main advantages, so we can customize packaging to cater to customer needs. In addition, our cold storehouse facilities have helped us to expand our sales window, and allow us to continue our supply when there’s a limited supply left in the market.”

Across the Chinese market, the period of August to January is a peak export season for honey pomelos grown in the Pinghe county. In 2019, the local fruit market in China was generally weak. The National Day period, which should have been a peak sales window, saw comparatively slow sales.

When talking about the expectation for the market this year, Wen said, “We are having a warm spring this year. The flowering period usually starts in March, but in some orchards, trees have already begun to bloom this year. However, it's too early to predict production. "

Flourish Fruits Co., Ltd. has 120 hectares of honey pomelo orchards in Pinghe County, Fujian Province and is GAP certified for all of their crops. "We have been working hard to improve the quality of our product, and have implemented strict control from orchard management, harvest and storage to sorting and packaging.”
