Thomas Weber, ATS-Tanner Banding Systems AG: "Banding could become a standard"

"Three reasons why banding is the optimal packaging technology for food"

"In the past week I have attended several events and conferences on the subject of 'sustainable food packaging' and sustainable packaging in general and, after discussions, I have repeatedly come to the conclusion that banding can solve many problems," says Thomas Weber from ATS-Tanner Banding Systems AG. "Banding could become a quasi-standard when it comes to sustainable food packaging - or at least it should always be an option when you think about it".

To further illustrate this, Weber put the arguments together in a bundled way:

Banding reduces waste and CO2 footprint
"More and more consumers are opting for products that are packaged in an ecologically responsible way. With its plastics strategy, the EU is setting the course and corresponding laws and regulations have already been or will soon be enacted - including in Switzerland. Retailers have recognized the urgency, are developing sustainability strategies and are pursuing ambitious goals aimed at reducing plastic packaging and waste. Banding is the answer to many questions arising from these challenges. Banding stands for 'only as much packaging as necessary' and at the same time it is an attractive packaging, depending on the application, with paper or high-quality film. But in any case 100% recyclable. Our banding machines and systems with ultrasonic technology are also extremely economical with energy and consumables and help to reduce a company's CO2 footprint.

Banding bundles and informs simultaneously
"Banding is the perfect packaging technology for primary packaging when it comes to bundling and/or labelling fruit and vegetables. Thanks to ultrasonic technology 100% adhesive-free and without toxic or chemical residues. If food products already have primary packaging (e.g. films to reduce food waste), banderoles take over the resource-conserving grouping into collective packages. But a banderole can do even more: it also protects against unauthorised opening, replaces the price label, provides all product information and assumes the function of an attractive advertising medium. Paper or film banderoles can be printed with advertising messages in advance and dynamic information can be printed just-in-time during the banding process.

Banding is simple and works everywhere
"Our banding machines work according to the plug-and-play principle: The machine arrives at your premises pre-configured. You switch it on and get started. The operation is just as simple. Our banding machines are robust, work perfectly even in wet, hot or cold conditions and can handle dirt without any problems. If you want to band fruit and vegetables seasonally, you can also simply rent our machines. Our banding material can be frozen, baked or put in the microwave without hesitation. And of course our banding machines can also be integrated into fully automatic production and packaging lines and are incredibly fast if required. And last but not least, banderoles are extremely user-friendly and can be opened without tools".
