Hans Keijzer, zti smart machines's co-owner:

"Our new pineapple peeler prevents juice loss"

A pineapple peeler is not, in itself, a new machine. There are already many kinds. "You can, however, improve the existing pineapple peelers in a large number of ways. Included here is considering several important core elements. Think of increasing the pineapple's shelf life, a better yield, and an ROI. These challenges were presented to the zti engineers. This company is a leader in the fruit processing sector. Our engineers came up with an entirely new concept", says a zti representative.

This new peeler has several unique features. The pineapple is not peeled from the outside inwards. This is the method used by conventional machines. The fruit is cut 'out of its peel'. The pineapple's peel remains intact. The peeled fruit is not cut or bruised. Its surface is, therefore, much smoother.

Juice loss is a pesky side effect of fruit processing
Hans Keijzer, zti smart machines' co-owner, is enthusiastic about this new machine. "It is showing results that exceed our expectations. During the design process, you can guess at how a machine will work. But, it is only once it actually starts running that you see whether your idea works as well in practice as you had hoped. Added to this, juice loss is something you want to limit as much as possible. We have been specializing in designing fruit processing machines for years."

"We, therefore, know what to look out for. All our machines treat the fruit with care. This new machine does not damage the fruit's flesh either. That means the pineapple retains its juice. That, of course, immediately improves the product's shelf life. The machine also cuts minimally through the pineapples' peels. That distinguishes it from the competition. This minimal cutting keeps the fruit, as well as the blades, clean," says Hans.

With or without its crown
The Pineapple Peeler quickly peels 16 pineapples per minute. It decrowns and cores the fruit too. This machine can also process pineapples with no crowns. Pineapples can be sliced, as desired, in various ways - in halves, quarters, or a specific number of slices. The fruit's cylinder size and distance from head to tail can be carefully determined. This results in a very uniform end product.

Minimal contact between fruit and peel
"The Pineapple Peeler's slicing cylinder makes no contact with the fruit's exterior. The pineapple is topped and tailed first. This action is the only time the blades touch the peel. The pineapple cylinder's circumference has the largest area. And it remains clean. There is limited slicing from the fruit's outside to its inside. That means the blades also last a lot longer," explains the zti spokesperson.

"Slicing for a good result with less juice loss and longer shelf life"
zti has the perfect solution for processing pineapples halves into chunks. The fruit halves fit precisely into the zti Fruitcutter's tray. This machine also slices and treats fruit with care. That means containers of pineapple chunks' shelf life is also extended.

zti smart machines will be at Fruit Logistica in Hall 3.1, Stand B-05.
