Laurence Maillard, Agro Sélections Fruits – Regal’in™:

Planting of Candine® apples in Spain and Portugal

The development of the Candine® apple, initiated in France and Italy, will now be extended to Spain and Portugal, where negotiations are being finalized. “More than 200 hectares have already been planted and for the past two years, the feedback from clients and consumers are excellent, especially when it comes to taste and storage quality,” explains Laurence Maillard, general director of Agro Sélections Fruits. The planting objective between these four countries is for 1,000 hectares by 2026. Given its development on a global level, the variety is being tested in countries of the Southern Hemisphere: South Africa, Australia, Chile and the USA.

“The 2020 production of white flat nectarines is expected to be 450 tons”
The other major project of the company is the development of a structured approach around a fully innovative range of white flat nectarines. “Since the agreement signed in May 2018 in France, the planted area has exceeded 100 hectares and the 2020 production is expected to be 450 tons. With such a volume, it will be possible for different clients to sample the product, and a seasonal supply program will be implemented for a few stores. The goal is to make the product known to buyers, and more particularly to the consumers,” explains Laurence.

In June 2019, a similar agreement was signed in Spain. The first plantings took place during the winter of 2019-2020. “In order to guarantee a production that meets the European demand, discussions are also underway in other countries. The goal is to reach 1,650 hectares in 5 years. At the same time, the organization will extend to the global level.”

During the 2019 season, 4,000 tons of the Regal’in™ brand were sold globally. “Our range of stone fruit varieties guarantees, throughout the whole summer fruit campaign, the same characteristics in terms of taste, appeal in the presentation, consistent semi-sweet flavor (sweet and slightly acidic), as well as a melting and crunchy consistency. Additionally, our fruits evolve very well on the shelves,” explains Laurence.

The flat peach range qualified “Savor of the year” 2020.

The taste quality of the flat peach range made them “Savor of the year” 2020, for the 5th year in a row, based on consumer tests carried out last summer. “In addition to this flavor title, a Consumer Game will be put in place during the summer of 2020, in stores, in order to boost the brand’s presence on the shelves and ensure its visibility.”
