Lively sales for cauliflowers, broccoli and fennel in early January, followed by another slowdown

While vegetables did not sell well before Christmas, things have been rather lively for cauliflowers, broccoli and fennel during the first two weeks of January 2020, but now sales have slowed down once again.

"The vegetable market seemed to have picked up after the holidays but sales dropped again after January 16th. The after-Christmas euphoria got our hopes up for fennel and broccoli, but things have slowed down once again," reports a trader.

"Cauliflower also did well, as quotations tripled at the start of the year due to the lack of produce available caused by bad weather in November." Over the next few weeks, the trader will source cauliflowers from Campania and Puglia.

"Compared to previous campaigns, we are working a lot more with fennel. The produce from Puglia and Lucania is of excellent quality, but unfortunately the same cannot be said for that from Calabria. There are of course some good batches, but they are not many."
