During this year's edition of Fruit Logistica in Berlin we will get to know a new player on the market, namely Holland Agri Foods, from Emmeloord, The Netherlands. Holland Agri Foods is a subsidiary of the dairy company of Farmel. Due to the demand for fresh produce from their customers in Africa and Central America, the dairy exporter Farmel decided to set up this subsidiary.
Potatoes, onions and winter vegetables
Holland Agri Foods has been on the market for more than two years and mainly exports onions, potatoes, carrots and winter vegetables to Africa, Central America, Eastern Europe and Asia. "Our customers at Farmel asked us if we could also deliver these vegetables," says Jacqueline Fokker, sales manager at Holland Agri Foods for Africa. So said, so done. "In the first season, we exported 500 containers with fruit and vegetable products to our customers. In the second season, that number had increased to around 1000 containers."
Own cultivation
The move to the fruit and vegetable sector was fairly easy for Farmel. “Jan-Henry van der Linde, shareholder of Farmel, himself has more than 1800 hectares of arable land with mainly potatoes, onions and carrots. In addition, we have our contacts with the processing industry in the region where we purchase a large number of products. For example, we can also provide for the delivery of fries and split peas. "
Fruit Logistics
Fruit and vegetables are certainly not a by-product for the company.
“It arose from the demand of our customers who already purchase dairy products from us, but with the establishment of Holland Agri Foods we want to focus on our own customer base in the future. With the fruit and vegetable products and the dairy products, we can offer our customers a total package.”
"At Fruit Logistica in Berlin, we mainly want to focus on making the company better known in the fruit and vegetable sector. We mainly want to make ourselves known as a new player on the market and, of course, to make new contacts," says Jacqueline. "We are very excited to see what this first edition of Fruit Logistica will have in store for us."
