Cyril Rouvière, Kissao:

“Mango sales were fairly fluid throughout December”

“We are currently approaching the end of the campaign for the Brazil origin, and the start of the campaign for Peru,” explains Cyril Rouvière, commercial director at Kissao, about the mango. “At the beginning of the Brazil campaign, the mangoes were quite good in terms of quality. In the middle of the season, like every year, the situation gets a bit more complicated around November. The volumes are insufficient, and the internal quality of the fruits is not optimal.”

Despite this fragility in the middle of the Brazilian campaign, Cyril indicates that prices remained sustained. “Each year, the mango usually sells very well in November at relatively high prices, not because of their exceptional quality, but because of the weak offer in comparison with the demand. As far as we’re concerned, our best producer in Brazil did not send anything until mid-November, arriving on the market at the beginning of December.”

A brand that sold very well throughout December in supermarkets. “Consumption was quite good at the end of the year and sales were fairly fluid for the whole month. With our flagship brand, we are certain of the quality and our clients are satisfied. We were less affected by the social events than some of our colleagues in Paris because of our clients being large retailers for the most part.”

“This year, the Peru origin is slightly early”
Regarding the Peru origin, the first batches arrived in the first half of December with an insufficient internal quality, like every year. “At the beginning of the campaign, the mangoes on the market are not the best. In order to arrive in France by mid-December, the mangoes must have left at the end of November and therefore lack maturity and have a limited taste quality compared to the Brazilian mangoes at the heart of the campaign. The difference in sugar levels between these two origins at that time can reach 7 degrees Brix. This year, the internal quality of the Peru origin is slightly early. We are already starting to get some good taste quality as early as week 2, while historically, the first good mangoes from Peru would arrive mid-January. In terms of volumes, we are having a normal campaign, and higher than last year.”
