The New Year period is always a busy time at FruitMasters. "With many home sorters, the Polish employees go home during the holidays. The tempo of our packing station then turns a little slower," says Zweer van Aalsburg. "An incredible amount of hand fruit has gone out the door."
"You see that excellent quality is required for Christmas. The bags will then go less fast, but nice, large apples will be sold more. Traditionally, between Christmas and New Year's Eve, a lot of Boskoop will go away for the 'appleflappen'.
"Subsequently, you now see in the new year that very large actions are planned because people still want to start the year in a healthy way," says the product group manager.
Towards the end of the year, the price is often made at the same time for a few weeks, but Zweer expects a stable, slightly rising price for the coming weeks. “The price for the Boskoop, of which there is much less, is already increasing. Elstar and Jonagold are stable. The prices are around € 0.65 for 75'ers. Apple export to long-distance destinations will also begin this week. We started with the Kanzi earlier.”
"We also see a tight market in the pears. Due to a lack of sorting capacity, the prices of the Conference pears have already risen to a level of € 0.65 for 55'ers and € 0.75 for 65'ers and I think that they will continue to rise.
There are fewer pears on the European market and the demand is good. Poland is loading Conference, but also Boskoop, Jonagold and Elstar, which says it all. In addition, the quality is a lot better than last year," Zweer concludes.
