"The overall volume of Australian fruit delivered to the Chinese market declined in comparison with previous years"

Australian fruit has always done very well in the Chinese fruit market. Although the vast majority of Australian fruit is destined for their domestic market, the country has also begun to develop a stronger fruit export industry in the last few years. However, this year Australian fruit traders suffered from terrible weather conditions.

Australia has suffered from extreme drought and several severe forest fires in the last month alone. Leo, a spokesperson for Australian fruit imports at Guangzhou Archer Fresh Co., Ltd., recently shared his opinion on the situation. Guangzhou Archer Fresh is a company with rich experience in import and export. The company imports several types of fruit from Australia. According to Leo, "The most pressing concern for the Australian fruit industry, as far as we can tell, is the extreme drought. Several fruit production areas suffered heavy damage from these extreme weather conditions."

"The size of nectarines, for example, is on the small side this year because of the drought. The overall production volume is also smaller this year. Based on the current conditions in Guangzhou Market we can tell that the overall import volume of Australian fruit is smaller this year than it was in previous years. The Australian fruit industry also encountered a different problem. The nectarines are not as firm as usual. After fumigation the hardness of the nectarines turned out to be less than ideal. Some of the nectarines are simply too soft. In the end, when product quality is below standard, then market feedback will be harsh."

Leo also explained that the impact of last month's forest fires on the transport of Australian import fruit is quite difficult to assess. Australian fruit still arrives on the Chinese market. However, the main success factors remain product quality and market feedback. According to Leo, "Consumers increasingly pay attention to the flavor of fruit. In the case of stone fruit, we also have to make sure that the fruit is firm enough. If the fruit is not firm, then consumers will not accept them."

"This is the time of year when the southern hemisphere is most productive. The main Australian fruits currently available are nectarines, peaches, and cherries from the interior of Australia. The cherries from Tasmania will soon arrive on the market. The production season of Australian oranges is already over. The new production season will begin in June or July next year. Australian grapes will arrive on the market around January at the earliest. Different varieties of Australian plums will also arrive on the Chinese market soon."

"In Australia, we mainly focus on table grapes, stone fruit (including nectarines, peaches, and plums), and oranges. At the same time, we are also looking for trade partners who can help us enter the cherry market. We are also exploring cherry trade in other countries. We are always looking for the latest trend."

Guangzhou Archer Fresh Co., Ltd. is a company specialized in import and export of fruit. In addition to Australia, Archer Fresh also cooperates with a large number of overseas trading partners.
