Peruvian banana exports exceed $137 million dollars in 2019

According to a report published by the National Superintendence of Customs and Tax Administration (Sunat), Peruvian banana exports between January and November 2019 exceeded 137 million dollars. This report reveals that November shipments totaled $8,825,812, a lower figure than the one reported in the same period last year ($12,799,875).

The average price per kilo also fell, going from $0.72 in 2018 to $0.69 in the analyzed period of 2019.

The main destination markets for the Peruvian fruit are in Europe, which accounts for 52% of total shipments, the United States (20%), and Panama (15%).

Peru has 15,000 hectares dedicated to the production of organic bananas, 12,800 hectares of which are concentrated in the Piura region, mainly in the province of Sullana, followed by Lambayeque, Tumbes, and La Libertad.
