This season's largest clients are Senegal, the Ivory Coast, the UK, Brazil, and Guinea

Dutch onion exports booming: 37,000+ tons in week 47

Onion packing plants in the Netherlands are working overtime. This is according to published export figures. In week 47, a total of 37,279,488 kg of onions were exported. That brings the season's total to 556,511 tons.

That is considerably more than the 478,296 tons exported by week 47 last season. It is also higher than the exports in the 2017 record year. Then 547,086 tons had been shipped by week 47.

In week 47, especially Senegal with 8,400 tons, the Ivory Coast with 5,157 tons, and Mali with 3,021 tons were large clients. Senegal is the African hub. It has bought 104,323 tons of onions this season.

The Ivory Coast has been good for 73,400 tons, while the United Kingdom has bought 36,134 tons of Dutch onions. With this, this country surpassed Brazil. Early in the season, Brazil had already bought 35,117 tons. With 29,782 tons, Guinea rounds off this season's Top 5.
