Swedish potato harvest increases by 20 percent

This year seems to be a good potato year in Sweden. According to calculations, the potato harvest has increased by 20 percent compared to 2018. There is an increase in the number of potatoes throughout the country and the total harvest is likely to amount to around 538,200 tons.

More starch this year
According to the Swedish Statistical Office, compared to the five-year average, this is an increase of 17,300 tonnes or 3 percent. Four of the southern provinces, Skåne, Halland, Västra Götaland and Östergötland are responsible for 78 percent of the total potato harvest in Sweden. The potato harvest used for starch is estimated at a total of 309,500 tons. That is 13 percent more than in 2018 and 6 percent more than the five-year average.
