For ten months of this year, Tajikistan reduced imports of fruits and vegetables compared to the same period in 2018. So, in particular, in the Sogd region, where the largest number of export-import operations related to fruits and vegetables is carried out, its import amounted to 11,650 tons, which is 653 tons less than last year.
At the same time, dried beans of 3,968 tons were imported most of all in the amount of $ 912 thousand, the Sogd regional regional customs department of the Republic of Tajikistan reports.
But in terms of money, canned products are most imported. Its customs value amounted to $ 3 million 325 thousand. And this despite the fact that the republic itself produces many types of fruits and vegetables, but its processing has so far been poorly supplied.
Following canned products are spices and various seasonings.
More than 2,874 tons of them were purchased in the amount of $ 2 million 957 thousand. Although it should be noted here, in Tajikistan there are a lot of different local seasonings and spices, but in the republic there is practically no process for its modern packaging. Therefore, these products have to be imported. This year, 333 tons more were purchased than in the previous year.
Also, 432 tons more bananas were purchased, the total weight of imported bananas amounted to 1662 tons for a total customs amount of $ 1 million 192 thousand. Here the situation is clear, bananas are not grown in the republic, and demand for them is growing.
Over the past period of 2019, compared with the past, the import of dried leguminous vegetables, coconuts, peeled almonds, peeled walnuts decreased, and less dried grapes and rose hips were imported. As a positive factor, it should be noted that carrots, turnips, dried onions, other nuts, dried figs, other dried fruits and peanuts were not imported at all. All these products are grown in sufficient quantities in the republic itself.
