BelOrta wants to conquer China with Conference during the Royal Mission

On Monday, 18 November, Her Royal Highness Princess Astrid of Belgium will start off in China for what will become the largest Belgian economical mission to have ever taken place. More than 600 participants will be representing the best, that Belgian industry has to offer and in the spotlight, both well-known and new contacts from this economic superpower. BelOrta is also present at the outposts of this mission and will, among other things, put the Conference pear in the spotlight.

"The Conference pear is popular with the Chinese"
Every year the BelOrta producers, produce more than 90,000 tons of pears which find their way to domestic and foreign consumers. "Since 2010, the Chinese have also fallen for the taste, shelf life and versatility of our pears. It is therefore no surprise that the export figures for China are growing steadily year by year. A favorable and necessary evolution due to the difficult export situation in which our pears find themselves in since the Russian import ban on European fresh produce started in 2014," says BelOrta.

Large-scale promotional campaign to seduce the Chinese market
"BelOrta supports export initiatives to the Chinese market through a promotional campaign based on the unique features of our Conference pear," BelOrta continues . "We are approaching the local market through being present at various trade fairs as well at an extensive tasting campaign. The last is supported by an extensive range of promotional materials at the point of sale."

Together with the Flemish Center for Agro and Fisheries Marketing (VLAM), we are pulling out all the stops and we are organising a series of probing actions on the shop floor, spread over the most densely populated cities in China. The best way to convince consumers, is to let them taste the Conference for themselves.

"We have developed a nice export packaging especially for this destination. This striking red packaging gives our pears immediate recognition. Moreover, the smaller size of the box ensures a short lead time and therefore a freshness guarantee," says BelOrta.

"Success of Conference opens interest in Chinese market for other BelOrta products"
BelOrta offers more than 30 types of fruit and more than 160 different vegetables. Following the successful introduction of our Conference pear on the Chinese market, demand for other referrals from our range is growing. Currently there are also plans to introduce a number of vegetables. "We are therefore ready to put the versatile Belgian fruit and vegetable expertise on the Chinese map in the coming years," the company concludes.
