Summer high altitude campaign comes to a close for Grupo Agroponiente

Grupo Agroponiente's summer season at high altitudes, carried out in the highlands of eastern Andalusia, has come to a close with a very good balance, as reported by its Supply Manager, Antonio Algarra. “We have achieved a significant increase in the production, reaching 13 million kilos; and with a higher quality than last year. This increase is mainly due to the expansion of the acreage, which means that there are more and more producers growing in these areas. The first cold spells have practically put an end to the cultivation in these mountainous areas, where the crops are grown outdoors and the end of the campaign is determined by the weather. Last year, the season finished a little later because of the good conditions, but this year there is practically nothing.”

As Algarra points out, “One of our main objectives is to supply produce 365 days a year to our customers. To this end, it is important to diversify in different areas, and at the moment, we are managing that very well." He also said that “in the area of ​​the mountains, at medium altitudes, the most common crops are tomatoes and zucchini, but peppers are also produced, especially the Lamuyo and Italian. This year there has also been a noteworthy increase in the production of green beans, and there has also been some eggplant.”

Lastly, Algarra says that, “For the producers, growing this type of summer crop, it shows that Grupo Agroponiente is a very flexible company when planning, since they can choose the crops that suit them best. Moreover, they have the guarantee that this is not an adventure, but a safe bet on a company that they know will respond, not only when handling sales, but also to provide assistance in the production process."
