The Green and Raf tomato line of the group and of its company, Vegacañada, stands out for the flavor of the products, which are marketed in the framework of a leading project in place for years in the areas of Vega de Almería and Campo de Níjar. Thanks to the involvement of producers with decades of experience in the cultivation of these varieties, extraordinary results have been achieved in terms of taste.
Francisco Ceballos is responsible for the Green and Raf Tomato line at Grupo Agroponiente and at his tomato specialist company, Vegacañada. “Our project is based on the promotion of ribbed and green tomatoes, in general. In this project, the producer plays an absolutely fundamental role. We stay constantly in touch with them, so we are up to date with any news regarding cultivation and improvements to get the product to develop as well as possible. We have a highly valuable team of professionals and specialists, which undoubtedly plays a big role in allowing the grower to obtain the best prices for the product.”
As a specialist in this type of tomatoes, he also talks about the everlasting debate on the authentic Raf and its imitations, highlighting that, in plain sight, “consumers who aren't very familiar with this product won't find it easy to distinguish it from certain imitations, although the flavor will surely mark the difference. That is why it is important that the information reaches the consumer correctly and that collaborative work is carried out by all parts of the value chain, allowing the consumer to always feel well informed about what they are consuming.”
