"Larger volume of small Chinese oranges this year"

China has welcomed a new orange season as domestic citrus enters  the market to compete with imported produce, which has dominated the market for several months.

Yang Zong of An Anyuan County Orange Orchard Modern Agricultural Development Co., Ltd. recently talked about the continuous price increase of Chinese oranges in recent years. "The purchase price of oranges in production areas began to rise in 2014. This development reduced the room for retailers to adjust their prices. The competition in the Chinese orange market became more difficult and more intense. Many companies actually went under as a result of this development. There are many reasons why the price of Chinese oranges increased. One of the reasons is the citrus greening disease."

"The supply to markets in Beijing is strained this year. Production areas suffered from drought and the size of the oranges is not the same as in previous years. There is a relatively large percentage of small oranges and the percentage of large oranges is only around 20% of the overall production volume. That is less than around the same period last year. Larger oranges are more popular in the Chinese market. Consumer demand for large oranges is therefore strong. The appearance of first-grade oranges is perfect and even second-grade oranges can still find a retail market, because there are different consumer groups with different requirements. Our company specializes in first-grade oranges. We are extremely careful when we harvest the fruit. We invest large amounts in the selection and processing aspects of our business to guarantee the best product quality."

"In the end, the sales volume this year is not great. This situation is the result of many interrelated reasons. First, the cost of plantation and management increased. Second, competition among orange companies has grown more intense. At the same time, our business also suffers from the impact of other kinds of fruit in the Chinese market. This year the apples are quite cheap, which has an influence on our sales volume of oranges. Furthermore, the overall economic conditions are not great. However, we are still quite optimistic about the future prospects of our business. We have great confidence that the superior product quality and freshness of our oranges will help us consolidate our market share."

An Orange Orchard Modern Agricultural Development is located in Anyuan County, which is in Ganzhou City, Jiangxi, the so-called 'Chinese hometown of oranges'. The company has already become a specialist that integrates fruit plantation, processing, retail, storage, and distribution. The company is one of the leaders in the Chinese orange industry.
