"Volume of Chinese pears twice that of last year"

The retail season of fresh pears in Shandong production areas is almost over. The remaining pears are entered in refrigerated storage to keep them fresh. According to manager Hu of Qingdao Fuzhong Agricultural Plantation Cooperation the production volume and price of pears have recovered from poor conditions last year. This was a good year for Chinese pears.

"The harvest season of fresh pears begins every year in late August and continues until the last week of October. Although production areas suffered from cold weather in spring and pollination was not great this year, the impact of these developments on the overall production volume remained limited in the end. The overall production volume this year is almost twice the size of last year," explained manager Hu. "Not only did the production volume expand, the market price also returned to regular levels. The price increased by 20% in comparison with last year. Furthermore, the price did not show significant fluctuations this season. The market price of top-quality pears is currently around 1.8-2 yuan [0.26-0.28 USD] per 0.5 kg."

"We harvested a total of 3,000 tons of pears this year. We sold a small volume on the domestic market. We sell our pears in wholesale markets in first- and second-tier cities throughout China. We also sell a small volume of pears through online traders," stated manager Hu. "In addition, we export our pears directly to Southeast Asia, Australia, and Canada. These countries have high standards for products imported from China. We therefore mainly supply these export markets with our top-quality pears. We have received great feedback from overseas buyers this season. They are satisfied with the product quality and price of our pears."

Fuzhong Agricultural Plantation Cooperation is located in Qingdao City, Shandong. The company owns several semi-automatic fruit selection and processing lines, as well as a warehouse with a capacity of 3,000 tons. In addition to fresh pears, the company also sells apples, grapes, and peaches.
