Garlic - lower production and higher prices

It is a very busy time for the Copap cooperative, especially when it comes to garlic and onions. "There is little domestic garlic available. Health and weather problems led to lower volumes due to storage issues. We are lucky, as white garlic stocks are good," explains president Francesco Rastelli.

Copap producers managed to contain Fusarium in the Piacenza area. The cooperative actually won a tender to continue studying ways to counter Fusarium together with University La Cattolica.

Although there is no excess, prices are no higher than during a normal year. "Domestic productions stand out against the imported ones and clients do not want to miss out on the high-quality of Italian productions."

In order to further promote the produce, TV program "Sempre Verde" included a feature on white garlic from Piacenza on November 2nd.

"But there is more as, on November 7th and 8th, we will take part in Bellavita in London. We will present unique products such as marinated garlic, sweet-and-sour shallot and caramelized onions. Our objective is to make ourselves noticed by importers of high-quality products."
