Red Moon® is a red flesh apple that is produced and marketed in Italy by Clementi Srl and Bio Meran for the biologic and biodynamic production and Barolli Orchards in Australia.
Jürgen Braun, co-owner of KIKU Variety Management – the partner company of Red Moon® in charge of Marketing activities - was enthusiastic at the end of Fruit Attraction: “In Madrid, Red Moon® apples have received good interest. We showed and tasted freshly picked fruits to many buyers of the normal trade and modern distribution from various countries. The attractive red color of the flesh and the high content of anthocyanin’s puts this apple in line with recent consumer trends.
The Red Moon® is a truly new product, an eye-catcher and last but not least an apple able to attract the final consumer and create additional sales. Red Moon®, in fact, does not compete with the already crowded apple category, but is another fruit, halfway between an apple and berries or pomegranates.
Luis Clementi, technical manager of Clementi and co-owner of the brand Red Moon® Srl explains: “Red Moon® is at the moment the only brand of 100% red flesh apples made in Italy. We have already planted 100 hectares in the most suitable areas of Alto Adige and Veneto with a current availability of 1.500 tons this year, a part also biological and biodynamic. In a few days we start with ad hoc packaging for Germany, Benelux and Scandinavian countries. The commercial tests will continue with a selection of distributors in Italy that will be extended to Spain. We will organize activities with tastings to let marketers and consumers get into the world of ‘surprise inside’.”
Red Moon® is a project starting with different segments – fresh consumption and juice and an integrated, organic and biodynamic product – and ending with one goal: surprising color and health. The apple is a scab-resistant variety which lends it increased sustainability. Clementi and KIKU promise more surprises in the future.
