Price of Chinese 'Chu oranges' from Xinping County continues to rise

The growing popularity of Chu oranges in recent years has drawn attention to the "hometown of Chu oranges", which is Xinping County in Yuxi City, Yunnan. The oranges from Yunnan have an advantage. They supply the market in the off-season. The first oranges on the market come from this area. The overall surface area devoted to orange production in Xinping County is around 8,153 hectares with an annual production volume of 91 thousand tons.

According to ncw365.com, the price of oranges from Xinping began to rise as soon as they entered the market. This has drawn the attention from fruit buyers in Yunnan, Guangdong, Jiangxi, Guangxi, and Shanghai. They purchase oranges in large volumes. The oranges from Xinping County have already been on the market for more than two weeks. This is around 40-50 days earlier than the oranges from Mayang in Hunan, one of the largest orange production areas in China. This gives oranges from Yunnan a clear market advantage.

The price of oranges from Xinping was around 3.5 yuan [0.50 USD] per kg when the oranges first entered the market. The price gradually increased and is now around 7 yuan [1 USD] per kg. That is a price increase of 100%, and the price is still rising.
