New packaging solution is entering the German market

Banded apples in punnets with wings

Sustainable and safe packaging solutions are currently a sensitive issue in the fruit and vegetable industry, including in the top fruit and citrus sectors. Machine Service A + P Schiffmann e.K. based in Jork - in the heart of the Altes Land growing region - has set itself the goal of providing the apple industry with a simple and robust packaging solution.

For this purpose, the modern technology of the banding systems of ATS-Tanner Banding AG was combined with the wing shells of A + P Service made of cardboard, whereby the apples are securely and firmly held together, the company announces. The combined packaging solution with the sustainable bowls and banderols is already being used throughout Germany for various products.

Banding 2.0
The advantages of the banding machine are numerous: Among these is the ease of use and great performance. "This performance is particularly evident in the fully automated line, which has a capacity of up to 40 beats per minute, depending on the product and product feed A + P Service combines this banding machine with a cup dispenser designed for A + P wing shells and with a bowl filler for automatically filling the trays."

After filling the punnets, if necessary, alignment and control of the filled punnets takes place before a feed belt transports them further for automatic tucking in of the banding machine. "The automatic infeed ensures continuous feeding of the banding machine, and when the punnet arrives at the banding machine, the band is first printed with the desired data, then placed around the filled wing shell and ultrasonically cold-welded." Subsequently, the removal takes place to a turntable or removal conveyor, where the banded goods are removed.

With the integrated thermal transfer printer, data and layouts can be flexibly printed on the sleeve, such as Daily changing lot numbers and EAN codes or even your own logos. The systems can process both unprinted and printed PE banderols (layout controlled) and banderols made of kraft paper. The PE share of kraft paper band is less than 5%.

Appealing & fruit-sparing effect
A + P Service offers semi or fully automatic equipment in various combinations, e.g. with weigher and turntables, which are customized according to customer requirements.

The appealing and fruit-conserving effect of the banding machine had already in the spring u.a. proven in the asparagus business. In order to adapt the technology to the product characteristics of the most diverse types of fruit and to optimize the packaging solution itself, A + P Service from Jork, as a distribution partner of ATS-Tanner, offers a complete package which covers the enclosure as well as robust cardboard wing shells. The practical and sustainable fruit bowls are not a novelty, but were still optimized by A + P Service.
