Turkey opened the 2019/20 export season for Satsuma mandarins on October 18.
Yields are lower this year, however there will be no decrease in mandarin exports, said Aegean Fresh Fruits and Vegetables Exporters Association's Chairman Hayrettin Ucak.
Ucak shared the results of the "Aegean Region Citrus Yields" report. According to this, Satsuma mandarin production was 169.000 tons last year, and the expected yield for this year is 122.000 tons.
"A majority of the fruits are suitable for exports. We expect to have a good export season" said Chairman Ucak.
Turkey exported 286 million USD (256.15 million Euro) worth of mandarins in 2018. Satsuma mandarin exports were recorded at 93 million USD (83.29 million Euro).
Russia ranked first in Satsuma mandarin exports with an export value of 50 million USD (44.78 million Euro). Russia was followed by Ukraine with an export value of. 19 million USD (17.02 million Euro). Iraq ranked third with a demand of 3.5 million USD (3.13 million Euro) worth of Satsuma mandarins. Turkey exported Satsuma mandarins to 46 countries last year.
