In the first seven months of 2019, Honduran banana exports declined by $ 34.4 million, totaling $ 279.2 million, according to a report of the Central Bank of Honduras (BCH).
This behavior is related to the 14.1% drop in the international average price (equivalent to $ 2.55 less per 40-pound box). However, according to the report on shipments, there was a 3.6% increase in the export volume sent to its main market, the United States.
Bananas continue to be the second most important Honduran product for generating foreign exchange, only surpassed by coffee (802.3 million dollars between January and July) and above palm oil, which generated 148.1 million dollars in the first seven months of the year
Despite this setback, banana growers continue to work to achieve their goal of surpassing the 531.9 million dollars in foreign exchange they achieved during 2018.
