“Due to the cold weather, the demand for winter vegetables has increased considerably. There is a higher demand for leeks and cabbage than for the typical summer vegetables. The supply of winter vegetables is of high quality this year," says Kris Berckmans of Bevra.
The wholesaler has an extensive range of vegetables in its range. “We only offer vegetables, because vegetable growing is in our nature. We only deliver fruit to order, but that is very minimal. We think it's important to keep the focus on things that we are good at and have experience in.”David, Marc en Kris Berckmans
Together with his father Marc Berckmans, Kris and his brother David puts their shoulders together under the daily work of the wholesaler. “I am the fourth generation in vegetables, the previous generations were all vegetable growers. My father and mother started wholesale in 1991," says Kris. “We have been in a new 800 square meter warehouse for 3 years and have been IFS certified for a few years. We used to do all work on 150 square meters. At least now we have the space to do all our work, as good as possible and to deliver all our orders just-in-time.”
"We don't grow ourselves. We buy our products through the auctions, but also directly from the growers; local and abroad. Our customers are department stores and specialty food outlets in the Benelux. We manage the transport to the customers ourselves, this of course with temperature registration ", concludes Kris.
