Beliamin Ezzarouali, Med Green Import:

"Huge demand for small Maroc Valencia Late oranges on the Dutch free market"

Med Green Import from Bleiswijk, the Netherlands, has always supplied Maroc Valencia Late to its clients. These clients are both in Europe and overseas. "We have been able to extend our programs with the supermarkets. This is thanks to these oranges' good shelf life and quality," says Beliamin Ezzarouali.

"There is a huge demand for this product, in small sizes, on the free market. We have good growers who supply us with good Maroc Lates of all sizes. As things stand now, we will still make it through three or four weeks. Then we will switch to the Spanish Salustiana oranges. And later, gradually to the same variety from Morocco."

"We have no issues with quality. We get our oranges from a different region. Some companies still export this product from Agadir in Morocco. We picked up on the quality problems in Agadir at the start of the season. We, therefore, immediately switched to our farmers in a different area," says the importer.

"We expect the same cycle in the coming season. Every year is, however, different. We have to wait to see what effect factors such as the climate and political situations have. Everyone can, of course, be an importer. But, doing strategic importing is not as easy as some companies may think."

"Concerning mandarins - last season, we had a lot of demand for large Clementines (size 1 and 2). This happened because of a shortage of this size and the production in Morocco. There was, however, an ample supply of the smaller 3, 4 and 5 sizes. It was not the best year for mandarins. There were problems with quality and too many small sizes. But we are expecting more large sizes in the coming season. There should also be lower production and higher prices," says Beliamin.

"We are expecting a limited number of clementines of all sizes in the new season. The trees produced a lot of mandarins in the past season. This year, it is expected that the trees will produce between 30-40% fewer fruits," continues Beliamin.

"We will, of course, also offer our complete citrus package. This range includes mandarins, oranges, grapefruit, and lemons. These products come from Morocco and Spain. Also, do not forget about the various vegetables we bring in from these two countries."

"This season we have citrus from Spain, South Africa, and Argentina to sell on the market. We have also been able to negotiate relatively good prices. The growers are happy, the clients are happy, and we are happy," concludes Beliamin.
