Joel Nelson, past President and CEO of California Citrus Mutual, has announced he is stepping down after 37 years. He will remain involved with CCM to work on various projects for the organization. Nelson penned the following letter to the industry:
"Dear members, friends, and colleagues,
"It’s hard to believe, but it is finally time to say goodbye. I definitely have mixed emotions. You have all given me a fantastic career with so many rewards. You've kept me young, excited, and challenged. You have given me and my wonderful wife Suezette so many opportunities, rewards, and treasures.
"Thank you for teaching me about this wonderful industry. You became friends and educators while allowing me to work with you and for you. Just over 37 years later it is time to slow down. CCM leadership has asked me to do “some consulting”. More specifically, work distinct subject areas on behalf of the organization. Most, if not all of this, will focus on federal subjects. Coming to the office for work everyday will be a thing of the past.
"Composing this note is hard, but the time is right. Because of you this chapter in my life was longer and more exciting than I ever anticipated. Together I think we did good! Not the best English to be sure, but it is the quickest way to say our successes were a team effort. Many grower directors were willing to put so much time and effort into making our organization one of the best associations in agriculture. There are a few bigger, but none better.
"Thank you all for the time, commitment, and partnership. You were, are, and will continue to be an outstanding industry that I had the pleasure of being part of. Thank you."
