Pragasy Exim ships Indian pomegranates to Hamburg from December

"We are open to both wholesale and food retailers"

Pomegranates are seeing an increasing popularity in German and (Western) European trade and are developing into a year-round product at a rapid pace. During the cold season, therefore, more and more pomegranates from overseas countries will find their way to European wholesale markets and into food retail.

Export company Pragasy Exim LLP. based in Pune, Maharashtra, India, has recognized this trend and will be shipping larger volumes to Hamburg for the first time this year. "Due to the utmost care in terms of preparation, quality management, packaging and shipping, as well as the attractive pricing, we are an interesting partner for every major European buyer."

The freshly picked pomegranates will go directly from the cultivation area to the sorting hall, where they are sorted according to the latest standards. After the first sorting, the intrinsic values (including brix content) of the fruit exotics are examined in detail, according to which only the first-class goods are packed according to customer specifications. The subsequent shipment also pays special attention to international standards. In total, ocean freight from India to the Port of Hamburg takes around 25 days.

Bhagawa pomegranates are sourced from selected growers and suppliers in the western Indian Maharashtra region. The region is known far beyond the borders for its large-scale pomegranate cultivation.

The first pomegranates of the Bhagawa variety are expected to arrive in Hamburg at the beginning of December. "We are currently looking for potential customers in Germany as well as elsewhere in Europe. Basically, we are open to all interested parties. Whether it is individual deliveries to wholesalers or fixed programs for the food retailing: we are able to deliver goods continuously," says Ms. Anita Grabowski, who is representing the export company in Europe.

The modern hall, where the goods are processed, sorted and packaged, is under the supervision of the Indian authorities. This ensures a hygienic production area and a smooth process flow.

Carefulness along the entire value chain
In order to meet the high standards of European trade, the company is always paying special attention to a good traceability, back to the place of cultivation. "We purchase our goods on the demand of the customer and have the usual certifications. Also, we keep our customers up to date during shipment and we are able to show them where the goods came from and what levels of the product chain they have gone through. Thus, we can guarantee an excellent product quality at a fair, competitive price, to the customer."

Planned assortment extension
In addition to fresh pomegranate mangoes (April-June) and various year-round products (onions, cashew nuts, turmeric and vegetable mix) form the company's export range. So far, the company has been supplying only fresh produce: in the near future, however, they would like to expand the range to include processed by-products.
