Fruitsland’s mission

Italian grapes: Providing European clients with a fresh product

The foreign markets have been demanding increasing volumes of red and black grapes for some years now. That’s why providing the client with a fresh product, not stored in refrigerators, is a must.

"From July to November we export many kinds of seedless grapes," explains Angelo Di Palma, owner of Fruitsland together with his brother Donato. "The white Melanie, the red Sweet Celebration and the black Melody are the varieties which we have been exporting recently."

We have produced Sweet Celebration grapes (a cultivar patented by IFG-International Fruit Genetics) for the first time this year. The product reported good results in terms of sales, thanks to its taste, which is unique compared to other red grapes. It is, indeed, a premium variety and it has generated great interest in Switzerland, where consumers are more discerning and tend to prefer a distinctive organoleptic quality. For all these reasons, we are going to increase the area under cultivation.

The Sweet Celebration cultivar is resistant to rain and humidity. It easily withstands bad weather conditions.

"It is appreciated not only in Switzerland, but also in every other European market where it has been launched," Donato Di Palma points out. "Producers who do not have permission to grow red patented grapes, such as Sweet Celebration and Timco, have to wait until mid-September, when the Crimson variety begins to ripen. The organoleptic quality of our grapes and our productive-commercial calendar are distinctive. This is our strength."

The white variety Melanie and the black Melody (both patented by SNFC) have enjoyed success on the European market, too. And in particular, Melody is one of the few black varieties currently available on the market and, thanks to its elongated berry and to its particular taste, it has obtained great success.
