"Understanding overseas markets is the basis for expanding exports"

“In recent years, the ratio of fruit and vegetable exports from China has been shifting. Before 2018, vegetables were the main export products, mainly thanks to China being a large vegetable producer. In addition, the supply period of each production area succeed each other, which allows for stable supply throughout the year, bringing a big advantage for export companies. However, since 2018, more fruit has been exported." This is according to Ms. He Xiaoling, Deputy General Manager of Shenzhen Lahai Supply Chain Co., Ltd.

According to Ms. He, with the continuous improvement of China's production levels, the export volume of fruit has gradually increased. In order to better meet the export standards and the increasingly demanding Chinese consumers, the company has channeled more energy and made more investment in improving the timeliness of logistics operations to ensure the high quality of fruit and vegetables. “The export volume of fruit is indeed increasing year by year, but the total amount is not substantial, because high-quality fruit is also welcomed in the local market and is very popular.”

Ms. He has seen some remarkable developments and trends in some markets. For example, in the US market, the export volume has decreased significantly due to the ongoing China-US trade war. She mentioned that the tariff on vegetables was increased from 10% to 25%, and even reached 30% in a short period of time. This has discouraged many Chinese suppliers and they have begun to look for other markets.

As far as the European markets are concerned, most of the products are those with longer shelf life like potatoes and taro. This is mainly due to the long distance between China and European markets, which makes it difficult to transport perishable fruit. Ms. He pointed out that the largest volume of products will be exported to the Southeast Asian markets.

“To sell to Southeast Asian countries, you need to know the market very well and understand trade procedures and how fast products can reach their final destinations. As a logistics company, we have done a lot of research to provide our customers with the best service.

For example, in Singapore, many fresh products are imported, so the clearance procedures can be done very quickly at the port, and products can arrive at the market very quickly. Other large ports in Europe, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East are also very efficient.

However, for Malaysia, the Philippines, and Vietnam, most of the products are destined for the wholesale market, so it takes longer to leave the port and reach the final destination. These are the things you need to consider when sending fresh products to these countries because you need to ensure freshness."

Office in Shenzhen

“We provide a ride range of logistics services, fresh produce, frozen products, and other foods for different types of companies. At this stage, we mainly export refrigerated and frozen products and foods such as vegetables and fruit, but plan to channel more energy into goods such as imported fresh and frozen products in the future, because it is a growing market and we know the China market very well."
