The National Institute of Agrarian Innovation (INIA), will launch the new variety of sweet potato INIA 329- Bicentennial on September 17, at the facilities of the Agricultural Experimental Station Donoso-Kiyotada Miyagawa in Huaral, Lima, in whose experimental fields the clone research to develop this new variety was conducted.
INIA 329- Bicentennial has the advantage of having a short vegetative period that varies between three and a half months and four months, with a minimum production of 40 tons, but could reach 60 depending on soil management and type, according to engineers Benedicto Chacón Ayala, Director of the EEA Donoso and Eladio Cantoral Quispe, a researcher in this crop.
It should also be noted that the adaptation is perfect for all valleys of the Peruvian coast, and is a variety very resistant to the virus and tolerant to nematodes. Tests carried out confirm that the best results are obtained with plantings in the spring season. The final product is very suitable for the domestic market, for exports and industry.
