Washington's Sweetie apple has started shipping this week

Introduced in 2012, the Sweetie apple grown at FirstFruits Farms in Washington State continues to be one of the most unique apples on the market, according to the company.

This is the seventh year of FirstFruits Farms growing and selling of the apple that’s been marketed as ‘Gala’s sweeter, crunchier cousin’. “The apple variety, originally developed in New Zealand, has some of the most attractive attributes from the Gala’s sugars, combined with the firm and crisp texture of the Braeburn apple,” says Chuck Zeutenhorst, general manager of FirstFruits Marketing. “This makes it a completely unique flavor all its own. Our season is short but it’s an extraordinary variety.”

Sweetie’s natural sweet flavor combined with its firm texture makes it great for cooking or snacking. On top of the flavor profile, Sweetie is also a visually appealing apple with its blush red tone helping it stand out on the shelf. The launch of the Sweetie season will begin this week and will be in select retailers nationwide through October.
