The tropical fruit season has already begun in Almuñécar, Granada, with the harvesting of the first Osteen mangos and cherimoyas, which are already in the packaging lines. The first fruit is of good quality and, in addition to the most important markets in Spain, they are also destined for new international markets.
Prices at the beginning of the harvest have not changed compared to last year. Mangoes and cherimoya are the first subtropicals that are obtained in the month of September and will soon add to the other varieties of cherimoya.
In the Spanish company Frutas Los Cursos, which is run by Antonio Rodríguez Antequera, as well as packing and marketing the subtropicals, work is being done these days to finalise the new expansion of the guacamole and juice factory, with which they intend to increase the volume of production of both products in view of the good reception they are receiving in important food chains in Spain, Portugal, Germany and even Poland.
In Almuñécar and La Herradura guacamole can be purchased in the supermarkets of the Dia chain. Custard apple juices are available in Hipercor and El Corte Inglés supermarkets, among others, according to Víctor Rodríguez, the sales manager.
