First Brazilian melons on their way

The first Brazilian melons of the season are on their way to Europe. "The new harvest has a good brix and an optimal presentation," says Leon van den Hombergh of Frankort&Koning.

"There was enough rain in Brazil. The sources and wells were all filled and the new varieties of Galia, Cantaloupe and honey melon will taste good," says Leon. "There is also more demand for Charentais melons and there are also new varieties of this arriving."

"In watermelons the trend towards smaller and seedless continues. More and more watermelons will weigh between 1500 and 2000 grams and everything is seedless," according to Leon. "In week 36 the first melon will be shipped and as of week 37/38 we expect to be able to offer almost all varieties!"
