At the moment, foreign countries require more black grapes from Italy

North and East Europe currently require more colored grapes and fewer white grapes. With a delay of about 20 days, the harvest of the first Cardinal black grapes took place at the end of July in the province of Foggia (Apulia - Italy).

"The unfavorable climate of May caused the delay in the beginning of the season. The production yield will be 10-15% lower. In any case, the quality is excellent both for Cardinal and Victoria and for the Red Globe and Italia grapes that will arrive later", stated Pietro Losito of Azienda Agricola Losito, located in the heart of San Giovanni Rotondo (Foggia). The company is a member of Op Apoc and is one of the Uvitaly certified producers.

"In particular, as for exports, for the past twenty days we have been recording a trend that favors colored grapes in place of white ones, which are the most popular in Italy. Compared to last year and despite lower volumes, prices appear to be stable, after high asking prices of 1.50 Euro per kg for black grapes, now they are around 0.95 Euro/kg. The first white grapes with seeds started with a asking price of 1.20 Euro/kg and now it is 0.90 Euro/kg."

"There is a moderate consumption of grapes at the moment and the favorable climate, with still high temperatures, favors harvest and sales. The greatest demand comes from France, the Netherlands and Lithuania, but even the Scandinavian countries do not hesitate to ask for the product", concludes Pietro.

In 10-15 days the company will start with the Palieri and Regal grapes. Still uncertainty about the period of harvest of Italia variety.
