In recent years, pomelos have become increasingly popular at fruit markets. However, since last year, prices have fallen sharply, and they has even experienced poor sales. So how's the price looking this year? Based on the current prices in China, this year's pomelo prices are still worth looking forward to.
Firstly, this year is an off-year, so the production is not significant. Last year, as good prices in the previous two years attracted rapidly expanding planting acreages, the price fell sharply. Moreover, affected by the on-year, the production of various fruits was higher, especially citrus which experienced a significant growth, leading prices to plummet.
Secondly, this year is an off-year for fruit in general. Last year, the abundant crop absorbed a lot of nutrients from the trees, which has led to a decrease in fruit set this year, affecting production. When there is less pomelo, the price naturally rises.
Moreover, the pomelo has been influenced by the warm winter last winter. As the temperature rose, trees grew too much in the winter, absorbing too many nutrients, affecting budding in the later stage. The flowering season also coincided with the rainy season in the south of China, reducing fruit set and leading to much lower production this year.
