"SnapDragon apple variety enjoying great success"

SnapDragon apples realized sales increases of 100 percent across several large retail chains and doubled overall sales in 2018 over 2017, according to Crunch Time Apple Growers. Snapdragon was sold coast to coast in the US with exceptional success in the Midwest and Southeast regions. Sales were tripled in the southeast in 2018. SnapDragon increased its consumer reach globally to include exports to Israel, Vietnam and Canadian exports increased this year to include not only Quebec but central Canada and Vancouver.

The managed variety developed by Dr. Susan Brown of Cornell University and released by Crunch Time Apple Growers in 2013 has seen excellent consumer response to the apple - selling out each season. In 2018 SnapDragon doubled volume and was able to keep pace with other managed varieties with longer time in the market, the company said. “We had a solid year in a very competitive playing field,” Rena Montedoro, Vice President of Sales and Marketing states. “Our growers grow amazing apples. Not just good apples. But great apples.” she added, pointing out that today’s demanding consumer is looking for fruit that is not only delicious but consumers also want to know where their products are sourced and that they are grown by responsible farmers who use the most sustainable growing practices.

SnapDragon apples are available mid to late September until they sell thru. The company said that due to advances in research and excellent Controlled Atmosphere storage, Snapdragon was available thru April 2019 this past harvest. Volume is anticipated to increase substantially in 2020 providing more capability to be in markets longer and on a much larger scale than in years prior. Crunch Time will also be adding a variety of packaging options including 3lb tote bags, 3lb pouch as well as standard 2lb pouch bags.
