Suning.com to acquire 80% share of Carrefour China

On June 23, Suning.com announced that Suning International, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the company, plans to invest 4.8 billion RMB to acquire 80% shares of Carrefour China. Upon completing the deal, Suning.com will become the main shareholder of Carrefour China, reducing the shareholding percentage of Carrefour Group to 20%.

According to Suning, with this acquisition of Carrefour China, it hopes to lock in the resources of domestic high-quality large integrated supermarkets, while accelerating the expansion of the FMCG category and specialized and delicacy management, exploring the multi-business integration and innovation under the brand.

Carrefour China officially entered the Chinese mainland market in 1995. Currently, it has 210 large integrated supermarkets and 24 convenience stores in China, covering 22 provinces and 51 large and medium-sized cities, with about 30 million club members.
