New PerfoTec technology giving Integrated Packaging an edge

Integrated Packaging has partnered with PerfoTec to introduce a system aimed at achieving prolonged shelf life and quality of fresh produce.

The company says the PerfoTec technology is at the leading edge in Modified Atmophere Packaging (or MAP) for fresh produce, and it is proven and highly regarded in the European market, where they have a major international retailer specifying its use for their produce.

Integrated Packaging says its aim is to take the fresh produce market in Australia to the next level, and offers an extensive range of products and services to meet almost any packaging requirement. Based in Victoria, the company has offices all over Australia, as well as New Zealand and Canada. Members of the team will be showcasing the company’s products and services at Hort Connections later this month.

Initial stages of this system utilise a fast respiration unit. This unit collects oxygen and carbon dioxide measurements for the produce, and Integrated Packaging say this data is pertinent in understanding how packaging and supply chain temperatures impact the freshness of produce and so can aid in achieving optimum conditions.

Technical personnel analyse the data with the help of PerfoTec software, and this determines the number and size of laser perforations required. Integrated Packaging’s tech team will work closely with the packer to determine the optimum hole pattern through shelf life testing, and gas analysis to prolong the freshness of produce.

The company has fitted the laser perforator to a high-speed slitter, and a state-of-the-art control system is linked to each laser head, which guarantees high speed control from hole to hole and batch to batch.

Each control system can work independently which only adds to the effectiveness of the MAP environment created. The laser hole position can be tailored each pack design.

For more information, Integrated Packaging will be in stalls 329 and 330 at Hort Connections.
