Yields are very low due to the bad weather in May, but at least quality is high, especially when it comes to the smooth melons produced by Gianni Bombarda in Bondeno (Ferrara).
Harvesting time at Bombarda
"We went from the 40 tons per hectare of 2018 to the 25 tons per hectare of mid-June 2019. At least prices are good - we manage to sell high-quality produce at €1.50-2.00/kg. Last year, it was less than half that. Expectations are good as demand is high and there is still little produce available."

Currently northern Italy is passing from fruits in greenhouses to ones grown in open-field. The refractometric residue skyrocketed since early June, meaning organoleptic quality is better.
Honey moon
"We will miss 30% of the produce until mid-July. However, considering that the weather was abnormal everywhere, we will all have to deal with the same situation. Companies that have focused on high-quality and on growing produce that stands out manage to obtain a good gross saleable production."
Honey moon smooth melons are the company's leading product. They have excellent consistency, high Brix levels and an excellent aftertaste.
