The constant increase in the production of Hass avocados in Peru is putting export market prices under pressure. Last year, Peru exported 330 thousand tons of Hass avocados; this year, it expects to ship 300 thousand tons, and in 2020, it will probably reach 380-400 thousand tons. This is more than enough volume, especially when taking into account what happened in 2018, when the great supply caused the price to fall significantly, especially in Europe.
According to a report by Camet Trading, an increase of 1 kilo in the per capita consumption of avocados (which currently oscillates between 2.5 and 3 kg per capita), would help absorb 10% of the fruit's production for export. By means of promotional actions in the country, it would be possible to prevent the saturation of the international market and the fall in prices.
With the aim of promoting the consumption of this fruit and diversifying its sales channels, Camet Trading, in alliance with "Mercado N ° 28", held an Avocado Week from June 3 to 9.
Also, two years ago, Camet Trading tested the sale of Hass avocados under the La Chilca brand in Wong supermarkets, which has led to a slight increase in consumption thanks to the promotional campaigns and tastings they organize.
