Price of Chinese vegetables comes down

Data from the Beijing Xinfadi Market shows that the price of vegetables declined in the last week of May. The price decreased by 19.28% in comparison with the same period last year. The price fell because the second spring crop still supplies the market and the early summer crop already entered the market. The temporary overlap between supply from various production areas caused the overall supply volume to grow.

The second crop of spring vegetables enters the market in large volumes around the same time. Meanwhile, many production areas of summer vegetables have begun to harvest the early crop. This puts pressure on the price of spring vegetables. The prices of many different kinds of vegetables have already begun to drop under this pressure. Some vegetable prices reached their lowest point in years. There is little room left for the price of vegetables to fall even further. However, the price will need some time to recover and rise again. The price of Chinese vegetables will remain low for a while.
