China: “Garlic prices continue to rise"

The circumstances for Chinese garlic this year are very different from other years. After Chinese New Year everyone expected that the garlic prices would come down, however the opposite happened. Since that time, the price has not fallen anymore but has only grown, as Mr. Ross from Rizhao Lvtuo Food Co., Ltd. explained: “Currently the garlic prices are quite high. Even though we do not sell fresh garlic, but processed garlic, like garlic gloves, diced garlic and garlic puree blocks, the prices for these products rose accordingly. Though, now that the new garlic is coming on the market, I think that in the next few months the price will come down a bit again, because when the supply increases, it cannot maintain such a high price.”

“We grow our garlic in the Lanling County in Shandong. After the harvest, we use our machines to produce different kind of products, like garlic gloves, diced garlic and garlic puree blocks. Every product has its own production process and after the processed garlic is finished, we put it in our cold storage in a -18 degrees environment. Only under this low temperature can we guarantee our products will stay fresh and can be kept fresh for about two years. When we export our products abroad, we mostly make use of sea freight and always use refrigerated containers.”

“We mainly sell our processed garlic abroad. In Europe our garlic gloves and garlic puree blocks are very popular. Despite the high prices this year, there is still demand from Europe. The demand is there, but we see when they make the order, they just order a smaller amount, to compensate with the high price. In June our new supply will reach the market and we are ready to take new orders for frozen processed garlic. Anybody interested can contact the person below."
