European potato market (week 23)

"Potato hunger" can be seen across Europe

European physical markets
Summary of prices (source: NEPG) :

Belgium
Message from the Fiwap / PCA markets :
Stocks are very low and speculation limits the supply and number of transactions. Many industrial buyers are still buying on the basis of unchanged prices, while peelers are finding it increasingly difficult to find the right variety and quality of goods. Fresh exports are also reported.

Fontane: 30.00 to 32.00 €/q, firm market;
Challenger: 30.00 to 32.00 €/q, firm market;
Bintje: firm market: "sinterable quality": max 15% floating at 1060 g/l and EPS min of 335 g/5 kg, sufficient size and good cooking colour: 25.00 to 28.00 €/q, for industry. The few batches that are still suitable for peeling still reach 30.00 €/q.

Prices in auction / veiling of Roeselare (source: REO via PCA): June 03: Weighted price (red and white) for hand-picked potatoes: 0.42 €/kg (90.00 €/q) excluding VAT. Appro: 38 t.

Futures market
EEX in Leipzig (€/q) Bintje, Agria and related transformer var., 40 mm+, min 60% 50 mm +

Netherlands
The market is very narrow and a firm trend continues in the Netherlands. The low level of free stocks reduces the number of transactions and volumes traded. The concrete prices do not weaken: 30 €/q minimum in Fontane, 32 to 33 €/q in Markies, up to 34,50 €/q in Agria. Official PotatoNL quotations have changed little, with some "planing" of higher prices in categories 2 and 3, but a considerable increase in category 6 "export".

Unwashed industrial potato, bulk, departure, VAT excluded, Nord Seine, €/qt, min - max (average) (RNM) :

Germany
Everything goes very fast. The Egyptian are almost finished, there are still Israeli from the spring harvest, and the Spanish have finished their peak. "Potato hunger" is noted throughout Europe, and producers are accelerating the clearing of potatoes in order to get to the market as quickly as possible to take advantage of the still high prices. The early harvest in the Palatinate was rated at 73 €/q for tender meat / round varieties and 75 €/q for firm meat / salad varieties. In potatoes for the industry (french fries), the quotations are stable but firm and unchanged for sinterable potatoes:
Agria between 32.00 and 33.00 €/q,
Fontane between 31.00 and 32.00 €/q.

Great Britain :
Average producer price (all markets combined) week 21: 26.29 €/q.
