The Ministry of Agriculture aims to balance supply and demand

Withdrawal of 30,000 tons of stone fruit for processing into juice approved in Spain

The Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food has approved a 30,000 ton quota to transform withdrawn peaches, nectarines, Paraguayo peaches, platerinas and flat peaches into juice, as it had already done in the previous season. The decision has been made following the difficult start of the Spanish stone fruit campaign and the justified demand for aid from the sector.

This measure is expected to bring balance between supply and demand and to strengthen the position of producer organizations, which may submit their applications as of Monday, June 10.

The Ministry has set a maximum withdrawal volume of 30,000 tons, which will be financed in the framework of the operational programs of fruit and vegetable producers' organizations. The amounts of aid paid to producers for the financing of these withdrawals may exceed 14.3 million Euro, according to the MAPA.

Deliveries will start in the coming days, once agreements have been closed between charities and the processing industries.

FEPEX is happy with the fact that the measure is being applied immediately, as it will contribute to strengthening the market and preventing and tackling any disturbances in the course of it, while avoiding the accumulation of stocks in a very vulnerable sector, given the strongly perishable nature of stone fruit.
