The Chinese pineapple market conditions have been great this year. The current retail price is stable around 4.5 yuan [0.65 USD] per 0.5 kg. In recent years the pineapple harvest in Hainan and Xuwen, Zhanjiang, has been abundant, but the market conditions were not great. Some pineapples were unmarketable because supply was excessive, and farmers did not see their income grow. Industry specialists explained that the Chinese fruit market has grown stronger this year and this also created room for the price of pineapples to rise.
The price of pineapples in Hainan and Xuwen production areas is higher this year than in previous years. The cost price for traders consequently increased as well, which in turn caused the retail price to rise.
