The potato campaign continues to be quite surprising as demand for new potatoes is also very lively and prices are good. On 30th May 2019, quantities in demand were considerable in a wholesale market in central-northern Italy, and so were the prices.
"It is a good period and the produce is of high quality. At the moment, the potatoes I commercialize come from Puglia and from Polignano a Mare in particular. This morning, wholesale prices hovered between €1 and €1.10/kg. Quality is excellent and the produce is looking good," explains wholesaler Daniele di Mauro.
SOP (Società ortofrutticola polignanese) is located in Polignano a Mare (BA) and, since its establishment in 1964, it has been processing and commercializing fresh produce.
The company's main clients are Italian and European retailers (Germany, England, France and Ireland) and domestic markets. In the short period, containers are being prepared to be shipped overseas.
Over the years, SOP managed to change to meet retailers' needs by performing strict checks on the production segment and creating a controlled chain.
The packaging facility covers 7,000 sq m and employs around 150 specialized workers.
